Adventures for Sewanee Visitors

College visit? Parents' Weekend? Homecoming? Graduation? Here are some adventures for your spare time in Sewanee...

Congratulations!

If you're visiting the University of the South at Sewanee, it's almost certainly for an important event -- making a college visit to "the Domain", as the Sewanee community calls the beautiful and historic campus; or, coming back for Parents' Weekend, Homecoming or even Graduation! Whether it's your first time here, or your fiftieth, here are a few interesting things you may not yet have discovered (or, they've come into existence since your last visit)!

A Day at the Farm...

If you have younger siblings or even grandkids in tow, plan a visit to Cove Creek Farm, in Monteagle, just west of I-24, open weekends 10-6, where they have a huge pirate ship the aspiring young pirates in your family can conquer, plus an indoor play facility. The entire family can tour this working farm, and take home some great memories (and in the fall, great pumpkins, too)!

Hit the Trails!

Sadly, some students spend four years at the University but have never experienced the grandeur and awesome wilderness that can be seen in one of our area's three State Parks (South Cumberland, Head of the Crow and Savage Gulf)

Historically Speaking

Is there a history buff among you? Of course, the University has some amazing history, but look beyond the Domain and discover some of the dozens and dozens of interesting, unique and historical sites in Tennessee's South Cumberland! Check out the historic Coke Ovens at the Grundy Lakes Historic Area, evidence of the coal mining industry that was directly responsible for locating the University in Sewanee. Dine at High Point, in Monteagle -- the very house frequented by famous gangster Al Capone, during his 1920s travels between Chicago, where his mob operated, and Miami, where he had a true "getaway" home.

So make your visit to Sewanee a longer weekend, or even a full week! The nearby communities of Monteagle and Tracy City have some great places to explore! There's so much more to see and do here in Tennessee's South Cumberland -- so start checking out our Do, Eat, Stay, Places and Events tabs and create your own awesome exploration of the Mountains of Adventure!
