The Hickory Creek Bridge is an excellent example of a two span masonry stone arch bridge and is one of only few stone arch remaining in the state.
This double-arched bridge was built in 1912 for Grundy County by stonemason R.M.Crick, who also designed and built the nearby Firescald Creek and Scotts Creek Stone Arch bridges.
The uniquely-designed masonry stone bridge is built with irregularly cut stones. A row of cut stone follows the line of the arch. There is little fill between the roadway and the arch, and
there is no railing. The bridge span is 30 feet, with a roadway deck of 12 feet.
Crick, whose workmanship on these stone arch bridges is widely regarded as outstanding, built the bridge for $639.00. Although little is known about Crick, his work on the Hickory Creek Stone
Arch Bridge and other stone bridges throughout the county reflect the work of a master stone mason.
The Hickory Creek Stone Arch Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
